There are lots of worries amongst friends and colleagues at the moment about jobs and the future.
I sympathise, but having been made redundant in the past, and worked in the notoriously topsy turvy world of publishing, I am more relaxed than most.
It may be a well-worn piece of advice, but I think it is so true: you are your own boss, even if you work for someone else’s company or the public sector.
Always think of yourself as an agency: You PLC. It may be that you only have one major client – your current employer – but like any business you need to keep an eye out for the next opportunity.
And when you forsee tough times or a deteriorating relationship, do something about it. Get out there, network, connect and find new clients. Create options, or else events will overtake you.
